Zipcar

If you need to borrow a car to run a quick errand, the South Waterfront participates in a car-sharing program called Zipcar, with three stations where you can pick up or drop off a fuel-efficient, hybrid Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV). It’s estimated that each shared car takes about 15 cars off of the road. Assuming each car taken off the road averages 25 mpg, and the owner drove 12,000 miles per year (US average), then Zipcar has removed 96 million pounds, or 144,000 tons of carbon from the air. Visit the Zipcar website to learn more.

Streetcar Mobile Music Fest

September 19, 2011

WTS, New Railvolutionaries, and PDX Pop are partnering on a music festival performed on the streetcar, called the Streetcar Mobile Music Fest: a celebration of transit and livability. The event will involve 6 bands or musicians playing on all of the regularly scheduled, running streetcars. The idea is to get people excited about transit, in the way that there is excitement and movement around bicycling (i.e. Pedalpalooza) and cars (i.e. car shows). So get excited about transit and experience great local live music on the streetcar!

Take the 2011 Bike Commute Challenge

August 17, 2011

Take the 2011 Bike Commute Challenge

The Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) Bike Commute Challenge is a friendly
competition to see who can get more people biking to work in September.
It’s easy, fun, and free!

Come to the Bike Commute Challenge Introduction on Wednesday, August 17, 6:00 pm
at Umpqua Bank to get all of your questions answered and get a bike safety
refresher.

How it works:

  • Anyone interested in taking the
Challenge looks to see if their workplace is already registered. If it
isn’t, they register themselves and their workplace team at the same time.
They become the Team Captain, by default.
  • Their coworkers register and join that
    workplace team.
  • Everyone logs their bike trips during
    the month of September.
  • At the end of the month, the BTA
tallies the bike trips and ranks all workplaces in size categories by the
percentage of commutes achieved by bike.
  • On October 7th, the BTA announces the
winning companies in each category at a big After Party.

For more information and to register visit http://bikecommutechallenge.com/.
