Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teaches participants to develop specific skills for concentration and deep relaxation. Reported benefits include reductions in pain level and an enhanced ability to cope with chronic pain, an increased ability to relax, greater energy and enthusiasm for life, improved self-esteem, and an increased ability to cope effectively with stressful situations. Course instructor Kimberly Carson, MPH, RYT, is a health educator who specializes in using meditation and yoga with people with medical concerns. She has previously taught Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at Duke University Medical Center, University of North Carolina Hospitals, and the University of Florida.
