Monthly Artist: September 07

Tim DuRoche is a musician/intermedia artist who melds a conceptual art sensibility with a jazz-based poetics of surprise to explore the slim boundaries between art, entertainment, and civic engagement. Over the last decade he has created site-specific performances, sound installations and action-events, and festival appearances with Beijing Opera musicians, Russian circus clowns, classic silent films, performance artists, auctioneers, blues legends, and an extensive array of US and European avant-garde jazz giants. DuRocheís conceptual strategies around sound-making have formed the ground for a bevy of intermedia collaborations with dancer-choreographers, poets, filmmakers, and with musical iconoclasts as diverse as Tiny Tim and Capín Jack McDuff. As a drummer, DuRoche currently leads the trio Resolution 57, Comme Il Faut (a project that explores the music of Ornette Coleman) and performs with the cooperatively led free music ensemble Better Homes & Garden.
